Free Virtual Reality Experience

Head to Riverside Bedford and take in The Virtual Orchestra, a virtual reality installation running until 10 August. The installation allows you to play along with segments of the orchestra as well as sit on stage with them in 360° virtual reality. The Virtual Orchestra event is free and open every day.

Bawden’s Beasts

Celebrated artist Edward Bawden’s lifelong preoccupation with all manner of creatures – from delicate insects to farm grazers and domestic pets, and from exotic jungle and desert dwellers to fantastical shape-shifting beasts – are the focus of an enchanting free exhibition drawn from the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery Collection.

Bedford Town Band

Sunday Chill

Stop by Riverside for Sunday lunch then take a stroll down the River to the Mill Meadows Bandstand where you can sit and relax listening to some traditional bandstand music between 3 pm and 5 pm. Runs until 19 August

Circular River Walk

Take a circular walk along the River Great Ouse from Riverside to Kempston Mill and come back on the other bank. The walk is about 5 – 6 miles and takes about 2 and half to 3 hours. Rewards galore await with a choice of great restaurants and bars at Riverside. Or for something shorter, try this self-guided of Bedford Town Centre’s historical landmarks.


Wonderful Wednesdays & Crafty Thursdays

Take the kids to the John Bunyan Museum this August for arts and crafts fun. £2 per child. Ages 4+

Wednesdays 10 am to noon and Thursdays 11 am to 3 pm.

Fun creative writing workshops in August

Is your child the next J.K.Rowling or Malorie Blackman? Do they love making up stories and creating imaginative, faraway lands? Then look out for creative writing workshops with Explore Learning in August.
